Joe Upson serves as Principal and Managing Partner of Blue Heron Capital. Joe brings over 35 years of experience in the corporate leasing and financing industry. He has served in numerous executive sales management positions, including Co-director of Equipment Finance for a well-known alternate lender. Prior to that he served as Head of Business Development for Align Business Finance, a Chicago based equipment financing firm. He also served as Managing Director at Heritage Global Capital, a new equipment lending unit of Heritage Global, Inc., a well-known, publicly traded company specializing in asset management and advisory services. Joe’s diverse financial background additionally includes strategic positions with New Blueprint Partners, Nations Equipment Finance, Textron Financial, SunTrust Bank of Atlanta, Bank of Boston and DeNovo Capital, LLC; a financial advisory and syndication firm that he founded in 2002.
Joe has originated and arranged approximately $1.5 billion dollars in various financial instruments over his career and is well known for his capital markets expertise. His product background includes mortgage financings, sale-leasebacks, bridge loans, term loan facilities with an emphasis on equipment leasing and financing. He has vast experience with working capital facilities collateralized by A/R, inventory, personal and real property. Joe has been able to successfully implement business plans targeting referrals, such as asset-based lenders, bank workout groups, leasing groups, investment banking groups, private equity groups, turnaround consultants and special asset groups.
Joe is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance (with honors). He is also an active member of the SFNet Association, Turnaround Management Association and Association for Corporate Growth.
